Persistence Quotes

March 9, 2009

from stevepavlina and wisdom quotes

“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” — Calvin Coolidge

Persistence is the ability to maintain action regardless of your feelings. You press on even when you feel like quitting.

“The secret of success is constancy to purpose.” –  Benjamin Disraeli

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” — Dale Carnegie

“I know the price of success : dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen.” — Frank Lloyd Wright

daily bread — tranquil, simple and moderate living

March 9, 2009

“Give us this day our daily bread” — Lord’s prayer

For 22 years, I have understood the sentence as. ‘Father, please give me enough foods, moderate house, happy simple family and moderate wage’. Honestly, the child version of me was bothered with those words. ‘Why can I only live moderately? I wanna be rich and popular yet I can still be a good person’. The more mature version of myself finally accepted this as ‘Okay father.. I can understand if you want me to live moderately.. but if you give me more prosperity, I’ll do my best that I won’t go bad.. You have my word’.. It caused me to have longer Lord’s prayer than anyone else..

But then, reading a Christian website delivers me to open ‘John 6:51′:

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world” – King James Bible

So, it’s nothing about prosperity.. it’s nothing about real food.. it’s nothing about money.. it’s about Him. We shall live for Him regardless the fact that we are rich or not. So the Lord’s Prayer never forbid me from going rich and wealthy.. But again richness and wealthiness should not be the main issue.

Until here, the conclusion is ‘there is no mistake for being rich’. But then ‘What is with the richnes and wealthiness that makes them favorable than tranquil, simple and moderate living?’ My small yet round eyes have seen those happiness with them who live moderately. The happiness is a mature happiness since they just live simply happy regardless to the question are they able to buy the luxury.

but again nothing’s wrong with the luxury.. just don’t dwell in it.
